Wanakasa Residence

Hidden in the deep green of the Balinese forests lies Wanakasa, an ensemble consisting of suites set around a mighty Banyan tree. As part of the COMO Shambhala Estates near Ubud, the Residence offers a place of retreat that combines the feeling of nature with the comfort of a five-star hotel.

The name itself, "Forest in the mist", describes the atmosphere: calm, grounded, encased by tropical humidity and by the aroma of the jungle. The interior designed by the Atelier Ikebuchi design studio mirrors the philosophy of the whole complex: holistic, attentive and with deep respect for place and culture. Natural materials such as teak wood, bamboo and ironwood shingles characterise the architecture. Soft, white fabrics lend lightness and mobility to the rooms, while classic Balinese elements create an identity. In this way, a place is created that is not only placed within a landscape, but connects with it. The view to the thick, leafy canopy of the forest opens up through the large windows, pervaded by the sounds of the Ayung river. Light, air and peace flow unhindered through the rooms. The lighting planning by Nipek, which consciously sets shade and accents to underscore the mood of the building, supports this interplay. The technical solutions are also embedded discretely into the natural surroundings. The KNX building technology used ensures intuitive convenience, without actually becoming apparent. The switches and push-buttons from the LS 990 design range in lacquered mocha harmoniously integrate into the overall architectural picture with their reduced design language and the warm surface with soft sheen. Sockets and operating elements also take up this note and remain at the same time functional and restrained.
