Flamingo Visitor Center

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Set on the edge of the Wathba Wetland Reserve southeast of Abu Dhabi, the Flamingo Visitor Center is a modest intervention that carefully mediates between architecture and landscape. Three conical volumes rise subtly from the desert floor, drawing quiet inspiration from the Greater Flamingo.

Each cone houses a distinct function—exhibition, administration, and visitor amenities—and is built using a 3D-printed mix of mud, rice husk, and straw. This low-energy material improves thermal performance, blends with the terrain, and reduces reliance on mechanical cooling. Strategic openings, skylights, and photochromic glazing enhance daylight and natural ventilation.

The construction minimizes ecological impact through on-site 3D printing, while shaded terraces between the volumes host a digital observation hub, café, gift shop, and multipurpose spaces—offering visitors a balanced experience between nature and technology.
