Dialogue between tradition and modernity
This project deliberately focuses on the contrast between tradition and modernity to create a harmonious interplay. The listed central section of the building retains its historical authenticity, while a minimalist new building made of bush-hammered exposed concrete with clean lines and contemporary materials complements the ensemble.
A lime slurry was used in the existing building to highlight the restored original paintings while preserving the historical aesthetics. The windows and roof of the old building were renovated in accordance with the historical model, whereby the lime plaster not only improves climate regulation but also allows the restored details to appear in new splendor.
The new building made of exposed concrete offers a modern, minimalist design language that respectfully frames the historic building. The robustness and simplicity of the material emphasize the contemporary design without dominating the historical substance.
The interplay of lime plaster and exposed concrete creates a clear architectural identity that combines past and present. This deliberate choice of materials gives the ensemble a special character and demonstrates how traditional and modern architecture can enrich each other to create contemporary yet respectful living spaces.
