New Maintenance Workshop for the Salzburg Local Railway
Our concept for the new workshop building is based on a clearly articulated roofscape that integrates harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. The building form deliberately references traditional agricultural buildings of the region, ensuring that it does not appear as a foreign object but rather blends naturally into its landscape and context.
The building volume is carefully developed both functionally and aesthetically, featuring a structured vertical articulation and differentiated hall sections. The strict geometry of the roof lanterns, combined with the clearly structured timber facade, gives the large building a sense of scale, orientation, and a distinct identity. The sustainable selection of materials like wood, concrete, and glass ensures a resource-efficient construction method while creating a pleasant working environment. Another key aspect of the design is the high degree of prefabrication, which would allow for a fast and efficient construction process.
From a technical perspective, the building is characterized by efficient logistics with clear functional organization and short operational routes. The project relies on a sustainable energy concept using photovoltaics and geothermal energy, making it a forward-looking and environmentally responsible building. In this way, a functional and sustainable workshop building is created that offers forward-thinking solutions both architecturally and in terms of its use.
