Life Science Center
„For us, architecture begins with the location. The Life Science Center anchors research in the urban space and creates a spatial atmosphere for concentration, exchange, and openness between science and city.“
The Life Science Center is conceived as a research and innovation hub within Vienna's third district. The building brings together laboratories, offices and communication spaces, creating an environment that supports collaboration between research institutions, start-ups and established companies.
The architectural concept is defined by a clear volumetric composition that integrates the large-scale program into the surrounding urban structure. A compact building form ensures efficient circulation and short internal connections while allowing flexible layouts for laboratories and workspaces.
At the heart of the building, shared communication areas create opportunities for informal exchange between researchers and visitors. These spaces function as social interfaces within the building and support interdisciplinary collaboration.
The facade reflects the internal organization through a precise rhythm of openings and horizontal articulation. Large windows provide generous daylight to the workspaces while emphasizing transparency and openness.A green inner courtyard with facade greenery and open spaces provides the adjoining workspaces with natural daylight and contributes to improving the microclimate.
The Life Science Center Vienna combines functional requirements for contemporary research environments with a clear architectural language. The project contributes to the development of Vienna’s life sciences and provides adaptable spaces for future scientific innovation.
