Changes in Berlin’s airports in 2012 will see the present main international airport Tegel closing and a new Berlin-Brandenburg Airport opening. The spine of the new airport is a central axis of parallel takeoff and landing systems on an east-west alignment. The main access fea-tures are arranged accordingly. The new passenger terminal consists of a main hall and adjoin-ing pier buildings. It is divided into two levels, separating arrivals and departures on the land-side. The main level is Departures, designed as a spacious, light-filled hall spanned by a filigree steel-and-glass roof. With its articulated facades and clear, geometrical shapes, the terminal incorporates architectural features from Schinkel to the Bauhaus.
