A Piece of City for Berlin.

In a negotiated procedure, the Baumschlager Eberle Architekten design won the “Digital Media Centre and Campus Development” project of the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb).
The aim is to make the rbb area and the buildings as they are used today fit for the future: With regard to the outdoor area, the campus is an attempt to forge a link to the urban setting. In future, a media centre with a newsroom will serve as the core for organising new worlds of work based on the “crossmedia” principle.

The Baumschlager Eberle Architekten design brings a new piece of city to Berlin, obtained through a careful handling of existing buildings, a coherent network of paths and an architecture which acts as a focal point of the dynamic campus. The historical buildings were preserved to the greatest possible extent and partially transformed. The newsroom with its wooden structure and glass dome puts the visibility of the material and the special geometry of the building at centre stage.
