A tasting of light, architecture, and winemaking
Architecture firm RCR partnered with Artec Studio to design the natural and artificial lighting for the overall project of the Perelada Winery, which includes the new cellars, the building known as “the farm”, and the squares and gardens around it.
The lighting concept ensures the artificial light is as integrated as possible and follows the path of any natural light. The project’s main challenge was that the new winery is an underground complex. To channel this natural light into spaces, prior to the building stage we made suggestions for designing particular components that would enhance the entry of daylight. We also looked at the natural light available so we could tailor our illumination solution to the site’s coordinates and features. Artec Studio teamed up with RCR to maintain the project’s serene and sensitive approach, and it is now a genuine wine, landscape, and cultural legacy in the Empordà area.
